Kyle displays his trophies |
This year's Lone Star Memorial for the Southwest Junior Golf
Tour was held on the East Course of Bear Creek Golf Course, in Euless Texas. Kyle celebrated his birthday by moving
up to the Boys 8-9 yo division and got to play 18 holes each day. Day 1 put him in 3rd place with a 76, but he battled
back on day 2 for an under-par 70 and leapfrogged into 2nd Place. He also won the Longest Drive for his division by
launching a booming tee shot just 10 yards off the green on a 220 yard, par 4 hole.

Kyle & Coach Suckki Jang display the winning trophy |
The Starburst Golf Classic, held in Waco, TX celebrated it's
10th anniversary this year. With 1025 entrants from 17 states as well as Malaysia, Phillipines and Mexico it is becoming
a prestige event in the Junior Golf World. Kyle entered his first Starburst last year, just 2 weeks after turning 7
and came away with a 3rd place trophy.
This year, he stated that he wasn't going to be happy with anything
less than first. So 8 yo Kyle returned to the Boys 7-8 division and shot a 37-38-36 over three days to take a six stroke
lead and the Championship. The weather was mostly cooperative except for heavy winds that had been roaring through the
state for over a week. Kyle's 111 over three rounds was 6 strokes better than his last year's score.

Texas Mexico Junior Cup Boys 8 - 9 Pecan
Valley GC
It's the 2nd Texas Mexico Junior Cup and this year it was at
the Pecan Valley GC, home of the 50th PGA Championship. The field was increased from 46 Texas Junior Golfers ages 7
-13 to 60 golfers, ages 7 - 18. Texas won the cup last year, therefore we would need 60 points to retain the trophy.
This is an invitational tournament and players are selected by tournament director, Robert Valero. Kyle
had to earn his slot by competing on Robert's Junior Mini tour last fall. Being one of two 8 year olds, and moving up to Boys
8-9 meant his match play would be over 18 holes on a 4300 yard set-up. Kyle had met his partner, Garrett Reband (from
Cleburne) when they played together at the Starburst Junior Championship last month and Garrett came in 2nd. He
and Kyle played Better Ball on Day 1 and won their match 4-up with 3 holes to play. They remained paired for Day 2 Alternate
shot and it was an assignment that played to both boys' strengths and they won 7 & 5.
The Boys 8-9 division
shuffled for the Singles Matches and Kyle played with Reese Ramsey. The two boys finished their matches 6 up and at
the end of the tournament, Boys 8-9 finished with an overall record of 11 matches won and only 1 loss.
Texas
won 8 of the 12 divisions and the Cup will stay in Texas until next year. We were grateful for the opportunity to play
this format as we would be submitting Kyle's resume for the 2010 World Youth Team Challenge.

Kyle displays the 1st Place Trophy |
Now in its 85th year, the Dallas Junior Golf Championship is
the oldest tournament in Dallas. Justin Leonard won his division when he started playing golf and this was Kyle's first
time to compete in this event. Played over 2 days at Keeton Park, the field doubled from last year - growing from
13 contestants in Boys 7-9 to 25 and it's a course Kyle is familiar with through USKids Golf. Kyle held on to a 3-stroke
lead after the first round to win by 2 over last year's champion Stewart Ligon. Noah Goodwin went 4 strokes better than
his 1st round score to vault into 3rd place.
